While there are many places to bring your grandchildren while staying in Minnesota, the following are our three favorite destinations - Minnesota Children Museum, Children Theater and Minneapolis Institute of Arts. These are destinations that are not only fun for children but also good for learning new things and expanding their imagination.
The Earth World exhibit offers children to scramble through an Ant Hill, create a thunderstorm from rafters, interact with turtles and snakes among other fun activities all related MN Habitat (video)
The Our World exhibit offer children drive around town in city bus, perform current hits on the rock-star stage as they watch themselves light up on a video screen, pretend to cook up and serve a meal to customers at the Korean restaurant among others(video)
In Rooftop ArtPark exhibit children can dip their hands into the stream bed's cool water, scamper up the 12-foot tree fort, dance under the shadow dome, mimick the shadows, shapes and movement of trees and plants among other activities. Please, see photos for more
The World Works exhibit offers children to creat medallions in the paper factory, explore the powerful force of water by racing boats down a chute, manipulate light to cast colorful shadows on the wall and much more (video)
What sets them apart from other museums is the playful approach taken by museum organizers. In these exhibits, children will find themselves in playful environment that promotes their curiosity and expands their imagination.
From Pre-School children to pre-teen, to even the grown-ups, the Children's Theater offers top quality productions that fit all ages, interests, and imaginations. The productions filled with original puppets, bright and lively scenes and beautiful customs done by extraordinary actors offers a top quality. Productions are shorter, to keep boredom setting in for very young audiences. Most of the shows are from classic books so also a great way to treat your kids for good reading. Minneapolis Institute offers galleries of more than 100000 art objects but that is not all. The Minneapolis Institute organizes programs and events for both young and old from Treasure Hunts to Family Sundays that is special day long events with different activities, performances and free audio tours. Each Family Day has a theme, often related to a special exhibit at the Institute. There is always a make-and-take art project. The live music inspires children to learn dace or just simple jump around. The older children will enjoy Art Carts that give them chance to learn about an art in an informal, one-to-one setting and often with hands-on materials. All ages may find the Interactive Learning Stations a great way to explore the art. In short, Minneapolis Institute of Arts provide an environment and activities that inspire creativity and learning
